Geospatial Revolution

The Geospatial Revolution Project at Penn State University just completed an excellent 4 episode series on the world of digital mapping and how it is changing the way we think. It is well done, includes interviews some of the top people in the geospatial industry, and does a great job demonstrating the growing influence and benefit of GIS and digital mapping technology. As engineers, we need to understand where this industry is going – GIS, remote sensing, GPS, and general data collection and mash-ups. At some point, you’ll have to decide what data is needed on a project and how to efficiently obtain it at the specified accuracy. GIS and remote sensing have become unavoidable! Each episode is around 15 minutes long and are posted below. The series is well worth watching!

Episode 1: Introduction and the how and why of these emerging technologies.

Episode 2: The city, powering business, and providing for a healthy future in the city.

Episode 3: Modern military applications, serving and protecting, and staying safe.

Episode 4: Tracking climate change, hunger, and disease.
