The Removal of Spread Creek Dam, Wyoming (Video)

Now a restoration project is underway, one that will return Spread Creek to a more natural flow. The dam will be removed, opening some 50 miles of Spread Creek and its tributaries to free movement of native Snake River fine-spotted cutthroat trout. (Jackson Hole News, 2010)

In the fall of 2010, Spread Creek Dam was removed through the efforts of Trout Unlimited and other partners. It was over 40 years old and the dam had been rendered obsolete. The project opened up 50 miles of stream to migrating cutthroat not to mention the other habitat benefits! The video below talks about the process and the reasoning behind removing as well as the monitoring effort and restoration effort moving forward.
